Broken Sewer Junction Repair After a Blocked Drain in Castle Hill

We recently attended a blocked drain for an existing client in Castle Hill.

At first, the issue appeared to be a standard blocked drain. However, after investigating further, we found the real cause was a broken sewer junction underground.

The damaged sewer junction was located approximately 1.4m deep beneath a concrete footpath, which meant the repair required excavation before the damaged pipework could be replaced.

Investigating the Blocked Drain

Blocked drains can be caused by a range of issues, including tree roots, debris, collapsed pipework, poor pipe fall or damaged sewer junctions.

In this case, the blockage was not just a simple build-up inside the pipe. The sewer junction itself had broken underground, which meant the damaged section needed to be exposed and replaced.

Excavating Down to the Sewer Pipe

To access the broken sewer junction, we first had to cut and remove the concrete footpath above the pipe.

Once the concrete was removed, we jackhammered the area and excavated down approximately 1.4m to reach the damaged sewer line. Careful excavation was required due to the depth of the pipe and the tight access around the property.

Replacing the Broken Sewer Junction

After exposing the damaged pipework, we removed the broken sewer junction and replaced it with new PVC sewer pipe.

PVC pipework provides a strong and reliable repair when installed correctly. Once the new junction was installed, we tested the sewer line to make sure everything was flowing properly before backfilling.

Backfilling and Reinstating the Footpath

Once the sewer repair was tested, we encased the pipe in gravel to support and protect the new pipework. We then backfilled the excavation, cleaned up the area and re-concreted the footpath.

The finished result was a properly repaired sewer line and a neat, safe footpath reinstatement for the client.
