Colin, Ben, Gen and Rohan from Precision Pipes attended the Greatness in Business seminar together in Sydney, stepping away from day-to-day plumbing jobs to focus on growth, mindset and business skills as a team.

Yesterday, we took two of our team members, Ben and Colin, along to the "Greatness in Business" seminar in Sydney. We spent a day away from the tools, focused on growth, mindset, and personal development.

At Precision Pipes, we know a plumbing business runs on more than pipes and parts. It runs on people. Investing in our team's growth, both on the job and off it, is something we take seriously, and this seminar was a great opportunity to do exactly that.

Why We Took the Day Out

Running a busy plumbing business means every day counts, and taking staff off the tools isn't always the easy option. But we see days like this as time well spent. A seminar built around personal and professional growth gives our team fresh ways of thinking that carry through into how they work, communicate, and show up for our customers.

What Ben and Colin Took Away

One session that stuck with the team was built around a simple framework for finding time wasted in a business — "one workflow, five questions":

  1. What's your business, and what industry are you in?

  2. What's one thing you or your team does over and over that eats up time?

  3. How often does it happen, and how long does it take?

  4. What's an hour of that person's time worth to the business?

  5. Is there software already involved, and is there anything worth double-checking yourself?

It's a simple set of questions, but a useful reminder to keep looking for the repetitive, time-eating tasks in the business and ask whether they're actually being handled the best way.

Why This Matters for Our Customers

A team that's supported and growing is a team that does better work. When we invest in Ben and Colin's development, it shows up in the way they turn up to a job: sharper, more engaged, and easier to deal with.

A key seminar takeaway: a simple five-question framework for identifying wasted time in a business.

One of the standout sessions at the Greatness in Business seminar covered a simple framework — "one workflow, five questions" — for identifying repetitive, time-eating tasks in a business and working out whether they're worth fixing. It's a lesson Precision Pipes is looking to bring back into how the business runs day to day.

Not every moment of a full-day seminar is peak engagement, and Ben made sure this one didn't go undocumented. A candid, good-humoured moment from a long day of learning together as a team..

"They came out on the same day explained the issue to me with great communication and went through a few different options to sort out our issue. Once we settled on one he immediately fixed the issue and left everything nice and clean. We will definitely be using Precision Pipes in the future." - M.S
